2010-08-25 - Good shoe, wrong for my feet

I ordered a pai of Merrels for myself after seeing how much my sweetie liked his. We both have orthopedic issues, and he had great success easing the pain in his back and legs. I wasn't so lucky. I am sure that the Sirens are a great shoe, but they are just made wrong for my feet. They are comfortable enough if I am not moving around and flexing my feet much. The problem is that the flex point right behind the toes is not where it needs to be for my feet. It pinches and cuts off the circulation to my toes if I have to crouch or be forward on the ball of my feet for long or very often. The sole also seems very thin, with a weak arch support. Normally I would just add an arch support, but the design of the shoe doesn't really allow that much space. That knocks them out for me. That's a bummer, because they are very lightweight and very well ventilated. For someone with more average feet, these would probably make a good shoe. For me, with high arches, a narrow heel and a fairly wide ball, it just doesn't work.
2010-05-21 - comfortable hiking shoe

I went to a local Sporting Goods store to look for hiking shoes. I tried several on and really liked these. I did try on a 9 and 9 1/2 (I usually wear a 9), and found that the 9 1/2 felt the best. I've been wearing them for lots of walking and hiking and really like them....and the color is dirt color, so they always look good. I'd recommend trying on the shoe at a store first to find the exact fit.

2010-02-22 - Can't beat Merrell

After 60 years, I have finally realized that you need good shoes for bad feet. Merrell has come to my aid. I first bought Merrell boots and found what a great comfort they were in just everyday walking. Now I have tried the Merrell Siren Ventilator and still enjoy the comfort of a good walking shoe.

This pair replaces a pair just like it that I bought last year and have worn the sole off of. I've been delighted with the old pair and expect the same from these. I haven't worn these yet; they are backup for when the current pair must be retired.
